"MicroSleepDub" horcht und sucht nach Klängen, die zu leise, zu wage oder zu tieffrequentig sind, so dass sie hinter allem was lauter ist, verschwinden. Das Mikrofon als Mikroskop. Seine Aufnahmen schneidet er auf Schallplatten zu einer achtstündigen Übernacht-Performance. Im offenen Dachstock des Schindlerguts lauschen wir schlafend den Geräuschen, aufgenommen in zahlreichen Städten, rund um den Erdball.
A durational sleep performance by Peter Lenaerts.
MicroSleepDub listens and looks for sounds that are too quiet, too vague, or too low, for sounds that disappear behind something louder, or that don’t match with what we see. By using the microphone as a microscope, MicroSleepDub zooms in and amplifies these neglected, underexposed and discarded sounds. With these recordings and experiences, Peter aims to compose a score for 4 dubplates. Dubplates are like vinyl LPs but they are pressed as one-of copies without a protective layer. Because of this the groove will wear itself out and the sound will disintegrate, a proces that will take at least 50 plays or 10 hours. Peter Lenaerts performance MicroSleepDub will start at 12h30 and will last all night long. It is very important to know that this work is not an installation, but if you wish to attend, you will have to arrive on time and you will be there the whole night. The performance will provide simple bedding, blankets for a group of 15 - 20 people, which means that you do not have to skip the night. Please bring anything that might make your sleepover comfortable, e.g. comfortable clothing, toiletry, a cushion, sleeping bag, pillow, etcetera. The performance ends around 7 or 8 in the morning. Breakfast will be provided. Limit spaces. Please apply in advance.

Peter Lenaerts is fascinated by empty spaces and invisible sound. Sound that doesn’t scream for attention but sneaks into the listener’s ear unnoticed. Sound without ego, pure sound. He strongly believes that in a culture dominated by visuals, nothing is as powerful, intense, and rewarding as closing your eyes and simply listening.
