Vadim Levin did a series of performances based on spiritual séances and ancient shamanic cults that had been so popular at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The first performance from this series he did in 2012 at Doc 18 Zürich, it was a “spiritual séance” with Marianne von Verevkin, 1870 -1938 “Being the Mistress of the Mountain,” devoted to the life of Russian artist in Monte Verita.
The other “spiritual séance” performance was a talk to Aleksandr Beliaev, Russian science fiction writer 1884 - 1942.
This performance was hold in frame of the “RePublic Domain Project” and took place in Doc 18 Zürich, Cultural Center Aarau and Cultural Centre Bern in 2013. During the “séance” Vadim was asking the writer questions about life, science art and politics. The next performance was called “Russen in Zürich”, “??????? ? ??????” and was based on the book of David Hess who published the letters and memoirs of Zurich citizens during the stay of Russian army in Zurich in summer 1799. He did that performance in Gallery +ion and in Stadtmission Zurich in frame of “Adventscalenderart activities.”
Vadim came up with the idea to reconstruct the shamanic rituals and connect it with tradition spiritizm. He wanted to turn to traditional forms of communication with the “different” world, using carton sculptures.
